Most vendors publish manufacturer COAs and stop there. We don’t accept manufacturer tests — manufacturers have every incentive to submit optimized vials. Our process is built so that no single party, including PGB, can compromise the results.
Round 1 — Randomized in-house testing
When a shipment arrives from the manufacturer, we randomly pull vials from across multiple kits before product is logged, stored, or prepared for sale. Random sampling across kits prevents the manufacturer from submitting cherry-picked vials for testing. These samples are sent to an independent lab for identity, purity, and mass analysis.
Round 2 — True third-party verification
Round 1 is only the start. To independently validate those results, we run a second round of testing using vials pulled from the field — product already in the possession of paying customers. PGB pays for and organizes this round — and reimburses the donor for the vial they contribute — but we never handle the vials.
The process:
- Donor call. We notify members with verified purchase history that a testing round is open. Interested donors have 72 hours to opt in.
- Random selection. Each donor is assigned a unique number. A random number generator selects one donor, and the selection is documented for transparency.
- Verification. The selected donor submits photos of the exact vial being shipped.
- Shipment. The donor ships directly to the testing facility (or a designated intermediary member) using a PGB-provided label generated through Pirate Ship, via UPS or another tracked carrier.
- Chain of custody. Tracking information and proof of shipment are shared with the community. The lab confirms receipt. No PGB administrator handles the vial at any point.
- Results. Test results are published to all members, along with documentation of the donor selection and shipment process. Member questions and feedback are addressed directly.
Sterility and endotoxin testing
For larger batches we also run sterility and endotoxin testing — research-integrity measures that matter for the reliability of in-vitro work. Microbial contamination in a research chemical can confound cell-culture and biochemical assays by altering pH, consuming substrates, or introducing competing biology that the experimenter didn’t account for. Endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide) is a potent biological signal that activates TLR4 and downstream inflammatory pathways — even trace contamination can corrupt studies of immune signaling, cell viability, and inflammation. Sterility and endotoxin data let researchers rule these contaminants out as confounding variables before they invest in further experiments.
Why this matters
Our methodology removes trust from the equation. You don’t have to trust the manufacturer’s test (we don’t). You don’t have to trust PGB’s internal test. A second vial — pulled from a real customer’s order, by a randomly selected member we’ve never touched — independently confirms the result.
